Urban Anthropology
Cities have always been starting points for social change. Against this background, urban research has become increasingly important in times of extreme neoliberal urbanization. Especially in Latin America's metropolises, the condensed and complex socio-cultural realities and effects of these urbanizations can be observed: These are an interesting point of departure not only in the everyday practices of residents, but especially in terms of the spatial, political, material, and socio-symbolic conditions of the city.
Thus, for us, cities are important frames of inquiry for current topics that range across the study of socio-spatial inequalities, social movements, sustainable urban development, (in)security structures, and migration and gender policies.
