Social and political change fundamentally changed the hitorical political discourses in Latin America. The historiography of the big national myths and narratives was sustainably questioned in the 1980s, at the latest, by social and political fractures during and after the military dictatorships in many Latin American countries. The efforts to reappraise experiences of violence require tre redetermination of historical narratives and symbolic policy.
