desiguALdades.net Interdependent Inequalities in Latin America: Structures and Negotiations

desiguALdades.net is an interdisciplinary, international, and multi-institutional research network on interdependent inequalities in Latin America. Its specific research profile emphasizes multidimensionality and global interdependencies of social inequalities in Latin America.

As of May 1, 2016, desiguALdades.net moved into its third phase. In the first two phases (Nov. 2009 – April 2014 and May 2014 – April 2016, respectively), funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provided countless opportunities in the form of doctoral training programs, fellowships for scholars at all career stages, workshops, public lectures, conference panel presentations, Summer Schools, and international conferences.

Although the funding from the BMBF has ended, the Lateinamerika-Institut (LAI) of Freie Universität Berlin will continue to provide support for the network, especially publications including the Working Paper Series, a venue for events, and a platform for visiting scholars with external funding. The Executive Secretary will also continue to inform about related activities through this website and the newsletter.

The LAI and the other participating institutions - the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (IAI), the Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik/German Development Institute (DIE/GDI), and the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies - will also continue to work on the themes developed in the desiguALdades.net project.

As one example, in November 2016, the LAI launched the new post-graduate research and training program trAndeS jointly with the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Funding support is provided by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) through the Deustcher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
