Gender research
Gender research
Inter-disciplinary gender research has had a significant effect on the Latin America Institute's profile. It has also emerged (in international discussions) as a particularly innovative inter-disciplinary approach to the investigation of the meaning of gender orders and constructions for the understanding of cultural dynamics and social transformation processes in Latin America. At the same time the theoretical approaches (feminist theory, gender theory, Queer Theory) as well as the methodical approaches (among other things qualitative social research, discourse analysis) can also be useful for the analysis of other areas. The results of the numerous empirically-aligned investigations and studies of gender research contribute not only to an understanding of the structurally complex social changes in the Latin American countries, but also to making intercultural and trans-cultural phenomena more comprehensible.
Within the field of gender research inter-disciplinary seminars, conferences and a series of lectures regularly take place at the Latin America institute. Currently, gender research is represented by the following LAI scholars: Prof. Dr. Anja Bandau, Andrea Blumtritt M.A., Rike Bolte M.A., Prof. Dr. Marianne Braig, Jessica Gevers M.A., Dr. Stefanie Kron, Dr. Karoline Noack, Dr. Stephanie Schütze and PD Dr. Martha Zapata Galindo.
