Application for the first semester
The application period for the Master's in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies for the Winter Terms (The First Semester) beings on the 15th of April and ends on the cut-off date. The dates regarding the application period indicated on the FU Berlin main websites are binding.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
We strongly recommend that international candidates apply as soon as possible. We also recommend a look at the FAQ.(1) One of the admission requirements for the master's program is a German university degree or an equivalent overseas qualification, with at least 60 credit points (LP/ ECTS) completed in one of the following subjects:
- Ancient American Studies,
- Brazilian Studies,
- History,
- Caribbean Studies,
- Latin American Studies,
- Political Science,
- Social and Cultural Anthropology,
- Social Sciences,
- Sociology,
- Economics,
- Literary Studies or
- Cultural Studies.
If these credit points are distributed across several of the aforementioned subjects, there must be a study component of at least 40 credit points (CP/ECTS) in one of the aforementioned subjects.
(2) Applicants who have not obtained their university degree from an educational institution where Spanish or Portuguese is the language of instruction must provide proof of knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese at the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (GER/ CEFR) or equivalent.
Important: Proof must be provided in a transcript or in the form of a language certificate, which is awarded after successfully passing a language test. The proof must explicitly state that the acquired knowledge corresponds to the completed level B2 GER/ CEFR. Affidavits or proof of residence in a Spanish or Portuguese-speaking country will not be considered. Proof of knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish must also be provided for applicants who have grown up bilingually or are native speakers if they are applying with a German university degree or a German university entrance qualification. The corresponding university entrance qualification (teaching in Spanish or Portuguese) or proof of completed studies in Spanish or Portuguese, e.g. at a university in Latin America, is considered proof of language proficiency at level B2 GER/ CEFR.
(3) Applicants who have obtained their degree at a foreign university or equivalent institution must provide evidence of German language skills at level B2 of the GER/ CERF.

Furthermore, applicants holding a foreign Bachelor's degree need to demonstrate knowledge of German at a minimum level of B2-GER.
