Which disciplines are included in the doctoral programme?

Only projects in the following disciplines are accepted: History, Political Sciences, Literature and Cultural Studies, Sociology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Economics, Jewish Studies and Religious Studies.

Can I still apply if my Master’s degree is not one of the included disciplines at the IRTG?

Applications will be considered if the candidate holds a master's degree or its equivalent in any of the disciplines mentioned in the call for applications, or in a closely related field.

What language skills are required for the doctoral programme of the IRTG?

Very good English and Spanish writing and speaking skills are mandatory. If neither is your mother tongue, you must provide a language certificate or other proofs (IELTS, TOEFL, Cervantes, stay abroad/studies in English or Spanish).

In which language do I have to hand in my application and documents:

In any of the three languages German, Spanish, English (a mix is also possible).

Are there any specific guidelines for the recommendation letters?

There is no template for the letters of recommendation. Both letters of recommendation can come from the same University. You have to enclose the recommendation letters with your other application documents.

Is there a maximum page limit for the research project?

You should describe your project in 5 to 15 pages (including bibliography).

Do I need to have a supervisor in order to apply?

No, a supervisor will be assigned to you, once you have been selected.

Does the call include postdoctoral positions?

No, the call does not include postdoctoral positions.

How does the selection process work?

First, you will receive a notification via e-mail that your application has been successfully submitted. Second, an interdisciplinary committee reviews the applications and selects the shortlisted candidates. Third, the selected candidates will be invited for an online video interview. After this the final decision will take place.
