Roberto Zurbano Torres is essayist, editor and cultural critic specialized in Caribbean literature, race and alternative music. He works at the Centro de Investigaciones Literarias in the Casa de las Américas in Havana, Cuba, one of Latin Americas most prestigeous cultural institutions. Between 2006 and 2013, he directed the Fondo Editorial Casa de las Américas, where he inserted racial problems into the cultural program of this institution. He just started a new program of social activism in a community of Cubans of Haitian descent. Zurbano is also political acitivist and executive of the Articulación Regional Afrodescendiente de América Latina y del Caribe. He is author of the books Elogio del lector, Los estados nacientes: Literatura cubana y postmodernidad and La poética de los noventa and of texts such as El triángulo invisible del siglo xx cubano: Raza, literatura y nación; El rap cubano: Discursos hambrientos de realidad and Cuba: Doce dificultades para enfrentar los (neo) racismos.
