Interdisziplinäre Tagung an der FU Berlin: Gewalt, Eliten und Friedensperspektiven in Lateinamerika

Die Tagung „Gewalt, Eliten und das Potenzial für Frieden in Kolumbien und Lateinamerika“ findet am 20. und 21. Februar 2025 an der Freien Universität Berlin, im Lateinamerika Institut statt. Die Veranstaltung wird von der Gruppe für Interdisziplinäre Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (GIFK) organisiert und widmet sich der Analyse von Gewaltkonflikten, der Rolle von Eliten und den Herausforderungen für nachhaltige Friedensprozesse in Lateinamerika, mit besonderem Fokus auf Kolumbien.

Am ersten Tag stehen regionale Perspektiven auf den kolumbianischen Konflikt im Mittelpunkt, insbesondere die Dynamiken in den Regionen Orinoquía, Amazonía und Caribe. Es werden Themen wie die paramilitärische Gewalt, die Auswirkungen von Friedensabkommen, die Rolle von illegalen Ökonomien und die Herausforderungen für indigene Gemeinschaften diskutiert. Der zweite Tag widmet sich vergleichenden Perspektiven auf oligarchische Herrschaftsformen in Lateinamerika. Dabei werden Fragen der politischen Machtkonzentration, der Rolle von Eliten in Demokratisierungsprozessen und der Verbindung zwischen Gewalt und wirtschaftlicher Ungleichheit untersucht. (Englisch)

Die Tagung bietet ein hybrides Format (Präsenz & online) und richtet sich an Wissenschaftler:innen, politische Akteure und zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen. 

El encuentro “Violencia, élites y el potencial de paz en Colombia y América Latina” se llevará a cabo los días 20 y 21 de febrero de 2025 en la Universidad Libre de Berlín. Organizado por el Grupo de Investigación Interdisciplinaria en Paz y Conflicto (GIFK), el evento se centrará en el análisis de los conflictos violentos, el papel de las élites y los desafíos para la consolidación de la paz en América Latina, con especial atención a Colombia.

El primer día se abordarán las perspectivas regionales del conflicto colombiano, con énfasis en las dinámicas de violencia en las regiones de Orinoquía, Amazonía y Caribe. Se discutirán temas como la violencia paramilitar, los efectos de los acuerdos de paz, el impacto de las economías ilegales y los desafíos para las comunidades indígenas.

El segundo día se dedicará a perspectivas comparadas sobre los modos de gobierno oligárquicos en América Latina. Se explorarán temas como la concentración del poder político, el papel de las élites en los procesos de democratización y la relación entre violencia y desigualdad económica.

El evento se realizará en formato híbrido (presencial y virtual) y está dirigido a académicos, actores políticos y organizaciones de la sociedad civil.

The conference "Violence, Elites, and the Potential for Peace in Colombia and Latin America” will take place on February 20–21, 2025, at Freie Universität Berlin. Organized by the Group for Interdisciplinary Peace and Conflict Research (GIFK), the event will focus on analyzing violent conflicts, the role of elites, and the challenges for sustainable peace in Latin America, with a special emphasis on Colombia.

The first day will explore regional perspectives on the Colombian conflict, particularly the dynamics in the Orinoquía, Amazonía, and Caribe regions. Topics such as paramilitary violence, the impact of peace agreements, the role of illegal economies, and the challenges faced by indigenous communities will be discussed.

The second day will focus on comparative perspectives on oligarchic modes of rule in Latin America. Issues such as the concentration of political power, the role of elites in democratization processes, and the connection between violence and economic inequality will be examined.

The event will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and online) and is aimed at scholars, political actors, and civil society organizations.
