Institutional Landscapes. An exploratory ethnography of new state institutions under the stress of extreme violence

News from Aug 01, 2024

The Institutional Landscapes project, a follow-up to Anne Huffschmid's previous project Forensic Landscapes, addresses the question of whether and to what extent new state action can emerge in scenarios of unresolved violence, such as forced disappearances in Mexico and Colombia. Using the example of two institutions searching for the forcibly disappeared, an innovative research design will be used to examine how this 'new' statehood acts, is experienced and perceived internally and externally.

The project (DFG-08/2024-07/2027) is based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology (Prof. Stephanie Schütze) and is being carried out by Dr. Anne Huffschmid.
