A significant number of doctoral projects contribute to the research profile of political science at the Latin American Institute. Doctoral supervision is provided by Prof. Dr. Markus Hochmüller (Political Science) and Prof. Dr. Bert Hoffmann (Political Science). Part of the doctoral education involves active and regular participation in the respective doctoral colloquia of the supervisors. Supervision is provided both individually and within structured doctoral programs. There is the possibility, upon request, to write the doctoral thesis in English or Spanish, in addition to German, and to conduct the defense in English or Spanish.
The structured doctoral education program at the Latin American Institute is under the umbrella of the doctoral program in Latin American Studies from a comparative and transregional perspective offered by the Dahlem Research School (DRS).
